After our first recording session, I knew I wanted to talk deeper on some topics with Evan. What that topic was, I wasn’t quite sure yet. I thought contemplating sports culture and how it reflects a nations culture was incredibly interesting and something I never really considered before. I also loved his story around acting and the work it takes to separate the news of other people, characters and ideas to find who you really are.
Ironically, I had a listener reach out to me and ask if I would be willing to talk about the human relationship with food. (Side note: LOVE LOVE LOVE when ya’ll reach out about the impact a conversation had on you or something you would love to hear more about. I cannot state into words the gratitude I feel for someone that takes the time and courage to reach out to the podcast. Thank you!) My little grateful and full heart received that message, hopped over to Instagram, and saw a post from Evan about his journey in weight less and finding what was healthy to him. I immediately texted him and asked if he would do a deep dive with me on the topic and he was more than happy to do so.
This conversation is rich with the complexities of finding what works for our bodies physically, emotionally and mentally. It is vulnerable in sharing our failures on this fitness and wellness journey. What I really love most is Evan’s unapologetic attitude about sharing his story. I am in awe of the self-love he stands in and I am so grateful for him modeling that kind of self-love and ability to share ones journey.
I truly appreciate his courage and for him to step out as a white man and share details which oppose the stereotypes our culture holds for men to be consider strong and valuable. Often, men aren’t given the space to feel and share their feelings on body image or their relationship with food. As a society, we paint a picture that being a strong man can’t include emotions or vulnerability and that is unfair and not a true narrative for being a human on this planet.
For the men who challenge the norms, like Evan, and stand firm and in confidence of their story – thank you. I feel confident in saying I can speak on behalf of other women, young boys and other men, your courage empowers others to do the same. Grateful for this deep dive with Evan and hope ya’ll are moved to find and love the best version of you because of it.
